Public Health Leadership-National Public Health Leadership Development Network
(NLN)
The NLN serves as a networking center and resource for state public health
leadership institutes (PHLIs) across the nation. The mission of the NLN is “To
refine and expand state and regional efforts to facilitate, demonstrate and
evaluate increased capacity of public health leadership.”

Information about many state PHLIs can be found through NLN. Most PHLIs
also have an individual Web site and can be found through a web search.
Public Health Organizations
Local
The Kansas Association of Local Health
Departments (KALHD)
Connects city-and county-level health departments serving the state’s
105 counties.
State
The Kansas Health Foundation (KHF)
Private
philanthropic organization that provides support for health initiatives
in public health, children’s health, and leadership.
The Kansas Department
of Health and Environment (KDHE)
State health department
of the state of Kansas. It carries out health education, training, and outreach
across the state and is one of
the founders
of the WALD Center partnership.
The Kansas Public Health Association (KPHA)
The state’s
largest advocacy organization for public health workers. Its mission
is “to
serve as the primary, unifying organization promoting improvement in
the health of Kansans and in public health practice.”
The Departments of Preventive
Medicine and Public Health, University
of Kansas Medical Center and University of
Kansas School
of Medicine-Wichita
They bring together
university research and resources with applied public health practice
in a variety
of health initiatives.
National
The American Public Health Association
(APHA)
National
organization for public health workers in all facets of the
field,
providing professional support for research, policy, and practice.
The Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC)
A federal agency within the Department of
Health and Human Services. The CDC conducts public health efforts in health
promotion, disease
prevention, and preparedness.
The Health Resources and Services
Administration (HRSA)
Also falls within the
Department of Health and Human Services.
HRSA promotes leadership and health resources, particularly
for the underserved
and
for populations with special needs.
The National Institutes of Health (NIH)
The federal agency that supports and carries out medical
research. It is
made up of
27 centers and institutes.
