The Heartland Centers for Public Health Workforce Development is made up of four specialized centers: The Heartland Center for Public Health Preparedness, The Heartland Public Health Education & Training Center, The Heartland Center for Public Health and Community Leadership and The Heartland center for Program Evaluation & Research. The Mission of the Heartland Centers is to “improve leadership and workforce competence and community capacity to increase capability to perform in emergency events and assure delivery of public health essential services.
Kansas Association of Local Health Departments (KALHD)
The KALHD is dedicated to strengthening local health departments for the purpose of improving and protecting the lives of all Kansans. One of the top objectives of the organization is to work cooperatively with community, civic, governmental and other health partners to increase knowledge of and access to public health services access Kansas for all citizens of Kansas communities.
Kansas Department of Health & Environment (KDHE)
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment’s vision is “Healthier Kansas Living in Safe and Sustainable Environments.” Towards this end, the KDHE supports the education and training of the state public health workforce through data collection, laboratory resources, environmental programs, and a diverse range of public health initiatives geared towards the unique needs of the state’s rural population.
One Health Kansas
Developed by Kansas State University in 2008, One Health Kansas seeks to educate Kansas citizens about the effects that humans, animals, and the environment have on each other. By encouraging collaboration between veterinarians and professionals in the medical and public health fields, One Health Kansas hopes to reach current and future public health professionals with information vital to managing upcoming challenges that could significantly impact the health of Kansans of all ages.
WALD Center
The Kansas Public Health Workforce and Leadership Development Center (WALD) is a virtual training center that uses technology to link public health professionals across the state. The WALD Center maintains partnerships through the Midwest and coordinates several major public health projects, including the Kansas Public Health Leadership Institute (KPHLI), emergency preparedness and evaluation projects, and the Kansas Core Public Health Program.
University of Kansas School of Medicine — Wichita (KUSM-W), Department of Preventive Medicine and Public
Health
The KUSM-W Department of Preventive Medicine and public health maintains a strong focus on research, service, and medical and public health educations. The department also provides faculty, staff, and other resources for the CPH program.
Master of Public Health Program (KU-MPH)![]()
The KU-MPH will provide course credit for graduates of the CPH program. The KU-MPH is ranked as the sixth best community health graduate degree in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. It is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH).
